Ice Rules
The St. Louis Skating Club (SLSC) has developed the following ice rules and regulations for the purpose of providing safe skating conditions, an environment for learning, and an atmosphere for pleasant skating.
General Ice Rules and Regulations:
Only skaters and coaches in good standing with the club and the USFSA are eligible to utilize club services and ice sessions. Proper skating attire is required on the ice. Street clothes should not be worn. Skaters will not chew gum, eat, drink or smoke on the ice. Drinking from water bottles placed on the rink barrier is acceptable, if proper awareness and courtesy is given to skaters on the ice. Profanity and derogatory comments are inappropriate during club sessions. Family and friends of skaters are welcome and encouraged to watch St. Louis SC sessions. The bleachers or lobby area should be used to observe skaters. Only skaters, monitors and coaches are allowed on the scoreboard side of the ice during club time. Videotaping of skaters must be cleared through the ice monitor. All videotaping must be done from the bleachers unless authorized by the ice monitor. Any complaints regarding the St. Louis SC ice rules, regulations and usage of ice during club sessions should be submitted in writing to two or more St. Louis SC Board Members.

1. The St. Louis SC purchases ice from the Brentwood Parks and Recreation Department for designated periods of time. Our summer session generally runs from June through August. The winter session begins mid-September and lasts through the end of April. The rink usually shuts down the month of May for yearly maintenance. The club contracts for ice for its skating membership in advance for each designated season, with the understanding that the membership will support the club throughout the entire season.
2. The club will refund money paid for ice time only under the following conditions:
a. Serious illness or injuries which prevent a skater from using ice for an extended period of time must be reported to the Ice Chair or member of the Board of Directors. Confirmation from an attending physician must be included in the information provided to the appropriate club officers.
b. Personal situations that would impair one's commitment to skating should be presented to the St. Louis SC Board on an individual basis for review. Absence due to skating competitions does not qualify for a refund.
3. Skaters will be charged for all ice booked by them until proper and timely notification of absence for the above reasons is made.
4. Ice can be resold to another skater upon notification to the Ice Chair.
5. Walk-on ice must be paid to the session monitor or Ice Chairperson and cannot be charged unless done so in advance.
6. Guests who are members in good standing of other USFSA clubs are welcome to skate on St. Louis SC ice. They must pay the walk-on fee. Prospective members are welcome to skate as a member's guest on a one-time basis.
Freestyle Sessions:
1. A freestyle/open session is not exclusively a program practice session. When a skater or skaters are preparing for a test or competitions, more opportunity should be given for program practice.

2. Unless otherwise noted, a maximum of 21 skaters will be permitted on the ice.

3. The following priority will be followed regarding right of way on the ice. (Highest priority listed first.)

A. Skaters who are performing to music over the ice.

B. Skaters taking lessons form their coaches.

C. All other skating, except dance.

4. Skaters should not monopolize certain sections of the ice, especially the center and end landing zones. Skaters should use common sense and courtesy to avoid collisions or startling another skater.

5. The first five minutes of freestyle session should be used for warm-up.

6. Program music will be played in the order in which they are turned in to the Music Monitor. If time allows, a program may be played a second time after all other tapes have been played.

7. A coach may request that a student's music be played out of order one time during that student's lesson. Other times, the coach may carry a cassette player. An exception to this rule may be applied only when there are no other tapes waiting to be played.

8. In the absence of a music monitor, the coaches will be in charge of the music and must follow the established rules.

9. Skaters doing their programs must be aware of all others on the ice.

Dance Sessions:
1. Dance sessions will start promptly as scheduled and will not be pushed back to accommodate the playing of freestyle tapes. The dancers have paid their ice fee for the Dance Session and they are entitled to a complete session.

2. No freestyle and no moves.

3. The first five minutes of a dance session should be used for warm-up.

4. All dancers who are skating to the dance music being played have the right of way.

5. Dances other than the ones on pattern to the music being played may be practiced, but skaters must yield the right of way.

6. Coaches and students shall yield the right of way to dancers on pattern.

7. Skaters should stand by the boards with special attention to not obstruct a pattern or be off the ice when not skating.

Freestyle / Dance (Open) Sessions:
1. The first five minutes of the combination session should be used for warm-up.

2. Skaters skating dance, because of set patterns, shall have the right of way.

3. Music for freestyle skating can be played during the combination session. It cannot interrupt the dance program tape.

Coaches:
1. Only Coaches approved by St. Louis SC can teach, coach or train members during club sessions.

2. Coaches should teach etiquette rules to the skaters and encourage them to obey them. If a monitor asks a coach to speak to a skater about violating etiquette, the coach should respond to the request.

3. Coaches may not teach from the boards unless they are injured.

4. No group lessons are permitted.

5. Selection of an approved Coach for teaching is left to the discretion of the skater and/or parent.

Monitors:
1. During St. Louis SC sessions, the Monitor is in charge of the ice and has the authority to exclude any skater who does not adhere to the ice rules. If a Monitor finds that a skater has violated the etiquette rules, s/he will speak to the skater's coach and request that the coach talk to the skater, or s/he will speak directly to the skater.

2. Walk-on ice payment will be made to the ice Monitor.

3. Monitors will play programs and or dance tapes during Club ice.

4. Ice booked by a skater will be kept available (without prior notice of delay) to that skater for fifteen minutes after the start of the session.
